With a little help from our friends

Recently we won a piece of business with an offshore client to buy their media nationally. They interviewed 5 agencies in Canada and visited each office, starting in Victoria and travelling west to Toronto and Montreal.ftr_section_logo

We wouldn’t have been selected if Diana Walter, our Media Executive, hadn’t put together a solid presentation that was loaded with great recommendations. She has been working with media planners from fellow member agencies in T-CAAN, and freely sought their advice and experience.

We might not have gotten the nod if the client hadn’t also interviewed, however unknowingly, fellow T-CAAN partner, Jan Kelley Marketing in Ontario. When he learned that the client had met with an agency in Victoria, Jim Letwin, Jan Kelley’s President/CEO, exclaimed, “I sure hope it was Copeland!” It was of course, and Jim endorsed us heartily.

But we never would have even made it into the discussion in Jim Letwin’s boardroom if Alain Vinet, President of Montreal’s Pub Point, another T-CAAN agency, hadn’t recommended us to the client in the first place. They had approached him at the very beginning and he had pointed the finger in our direction as an ideal English Canada media partner.

So what the heck is T-CAAN?

We are a union of 30 independent agencies across Canada. We stretch from Whitehorse and Yellowknife, down to Victoria, then all the way across the country to St. John’s Newfoundland. Along the way, are the cream of Canadian independents: well-known agencies like Zero Gravity in Calgary, Brown Communications in Regina, Acart in Ottawa, Colour in Halifax, Revolution in Saint John.

T-CAAN was founded in 1962 by Bill Whitehead Sr. – who continues to drive the network along – and it puts literally hundreds of smart agency women and men at each other’s disposal. We meet once a year for 3 intense days of workshops, seminars and relationship building exercises involving Canadian brewery products.

Frank Palmer of DDB Canada is a long-time T-CAAN member and is a tireless supporter, mentor and inspiration to the agencies.

Copeland is lucky to be a part of this group. We’re a local agency of just 12 people. But with this kind of network power and support, we sure do feel a whole helluva lot bigger. And smarter.

    You know it Alex. And she threw this presentation together working over her weekend. They only gave us 5 days notice they were coming!

    Doug thanks for keeping the T-CAAN story top of mind and spreading the word about the great relationships we build. With an agency of 15 at aasman, we’ve called on the T-CAAN resources many times to compliment and add to our resources for client projects. Always a good fit.

    I appreciate the comment Trevor. We are mindful of the fact that smaller agencies like ours seem to have more to gain from their association with T-CAAN then the bigger ones. Looking for ways to give value back….
