And the winning Zombie Intern is…

16 Mar

The people have spoken.

Danny Prew, permanently known to us now as “Drew”, was the top vote getter in our Zombie Internship Contest poll over the past 24 hours.

He earned his place at the Copeland lunchroom table the hard way.

Not only did he craft a stunning website to state his case, but he went the extra mile, filming a video in our offices while we were working (“Get the hell out of our office before I call the morgue!”). That it was a parody of our own video – down to the exact duration – impressed us further.

We can’t wait to have him around. Fantastic work Drew.

All the four finalists blew us away. We couldn’t agree internally on whose entry was best. Fortunately, we got tremendous voting support from you, our reader.

I know this is very Gen-Y and all, but we think they’re all winners. So we are going to meet with each to see how we can help get their careers going in the direction they deserve.

One thing should be clear from this contest. Vancouver Island colleges and universities are producing smart, talented, enthusiastic and whacky students.

Hats off to the Pacific Design Academy (Drew), Camosun College (Cale and Bryan) and Vancouver Island University (Brad).

Your students did you proud.

    Grats Drew, you earned it!

Congratulations to Drew (Danny), I’m proud of ya.

You’ve gained a very talented designer. Thanks to Copeland for giving this opportunity for one of my students. If I can ever give Copeland something back in return for doing this, don’t hesitate to ask.

Need me to come in and talk, I’d be more than happy to share my perspectives to your team.

    Congratulations DANNY!
This whole Drew name thing is getting a little strange.

Danny prefers it to Prewbiotic Yogurt, Sophie. Although it was a close vote as well.

Haha. That’s a shame, Prewbiotic Yogurt really stands out 🙂

Whoops! Did I mistakenly call him Drew?! Sorry about that, Drew.

Amy you have started something here that is bigger than all of us. This snowball is outta control. Stand back.

Congrats Drew (aka Prewbiotic Yogurt, aka Danny) how many aliases are there?

    Anyhow, great work. Loved it!

Doug, awesome use of the social medium.

Thanks a lot Mark. Here are the other nicknames Danny goes by, which he shared with us in the comments on our blog yesterday:

    Danny:
“I’ve had a lot of unique nicknames in the past:
    – Prewbacca
    – Prewvian Warlord
    – Prewbiotic Yogurt
    – The Grand Prewba

but the simplicity of “Drew” has never dawned on me…thanks Amy’s!”

Thanks to everyone who voted for me and thanks for all the kind words over the past week. I really appreciate it.

Incredible work from Bryan, Cale and Brad those guys impressed me every time I lurked their entries, incredibly talented and I don’t doubt they’ll all kill it in the future.

Also, thanks to Doug and the staff at Copeland for creating a very unique contest that was a total pleasure to take part in, many times I forgot I was competing at all, it was that much fun. I’m sure there’s been a lot of people who enjoyed following the contest as much as I did.

And Mark, those are the nice nicknames, having a last name that rhymed with “poo” during elementary school was never good. So don’t worry Amy it could be worse!

  12. Brad March 16, 2011 at 10:03 am #

    Congratulations Danny!

    > 50 Carleton, thank you for your fantastic blog post! That was great.

    > Drew, I’m sorry you ended up in our Spam box. It seems WordPress isn’t one with your new name yet. Congratulations to you on getting the support you did. And for making it through your school years with a name that rhymes with “poo”.

    > Brad, you rocked it. Nice job.

  15. Lauren Barnard March 17, 2011 at 12:39 am #

Congrats Drew!!! Now you can get your foot back? 🙂

Congratulations to Drew and all the zomterns.

Gotta confess a soft spot for Bryan and Cale, though — two creative ‘suits’ with great futures ahead 🙂

    > Lauren too late. We sliced it up and made sandwiches with it yesterday.

    > Great work by the Camosun guys Cynthia. They really impressed us.
