So you’re sitting across the boardroom table from your ad agency and they’re telling you that yes, the economy is down but that’s the best possible time to advertise.
Uh-huh. Ask them what they’re doing in the way of advertising themselves.
Some agencies really believe in promoting their business and others don’t. But they ALL believe in promoting your business. Know what I mean?
One agency that is consistently good at advertising itself is Saint Bernadine Mission in Vancouver. This hot little creative shop owned by David Walker and Andrew Samuel makes a point of producing devilishly clever self-promotions several times a year using their Saint Bernadine icon.
Last year they memorably dispatched a toaster with a customized inset grill that toasted the Saint onto your bread. When they moved into their new offices in Chinatown, they sent out a Saint Bernadine jade Buddha.
That stuff costs money.
Does Copeland advertise? We do. We create case studies and blogs and videos, man the Twitterverse, bring heavy hitter speakers to town and run contests.
For example, here’s a case study that we posted to YouTube on Friday. I’m sorry you have to see my face in it. That’s taking “self-promotion” too far in my books!
