Copeland has a moving experience

26 Aug

Ok. Well we’re in the new place. Sort of.

We found a dead mouse waiting for us at the door when we arrived, but hey, that’s the neighbourhood.

Dead mouse outside new Copeland office

The movers came to the old office this morning and hauled our stuff off. We are now sorting through boxes and fighting over chairs and bookshelves.

The phones don’t work. Don’t call us until Monday.

The computers work fine but no one has a station set up yet because the desks haven’t arrived.

But the windows look fantastic. Great job by Murray Kirk at Mini Max Media.

Hell of a job moving out of the Broughton St. address where we had managed to accumulate 13 years worth of filth hiding behind places we don’t ever go.

Look what we found in the fridge. I maintain it was there before I arrived in 2008. I believe, by the colouring, it was a slice of key lime pie.

Moldy fetid pie slice left in the fridge for too long

So here was the new digs a week ago:

And here is the main work area today (the carpets were laid down yesterday, same time as the toilet became operational):

Cleaned up rather nicely.

We are happy with the spot and the mood has been hearty and convivial, if falling short of festive. That won’t happen until I surprise them with champagne in about an hour. (UPDATE. They got beer from Phillips brewery instead: we had no glasses for the champers.)

Here are some of the hardened Copeland workers. Note the menacing characters in the doorway looking set to change the mood. But hey, that’s the neighbourhood.

Looking good, Doug. When will you be accepting curious visitors?

    Hey Doug,

Congratulations on the move. Must be hugely satisfying to see it all come together. I remember in 2008, you were a bit nervous and wondered if you’d done the right thing. Now you know you have.

    > Cheers Adem. We may decide to go hog-wild for Hallow’een this year as an office warming gig, but we haven’t figured it out yet.

    > Never a doubt in my mind Manu except that I’d heard about all the pigeon shit in Victoria!

This isn’t the same Murray Kirk who is/was with Information Packaging, right?

  5. Doug Brown August 26, 2011 at 3:55 pm #

Drop him a line. His link is embedded in the post Manu.

Congrats on the new digs. Ah, that new office smell…or maybe it’s Matt Phillip’s putting on a new brew to welcome y’all to the neighbourhood.

I am still a bit squeezy (sp?) after some of those images… but the place looks wonderful. New beginnings are wonderful, even with the bumps. All my best wishes for an exciting future with the new face of your company.
