It’s not your imagination that every second ad on TV right now is for a tablet or a smartphone. The media buys are astounding.
Not surprisingly, according to Neilsen, iPads are the most requested gift this year amongst children 6 – 12 years of age. 44% want one. Second on the list is iPod Touches, with iPhones coming in third.
Here’s the problem with all this: North Americans are swimming in debt. Even with the holiday discounts, these tech babies cost serious dough. Furthering the problem for parents, sticker shock isn’t quite as de-motivating in December as it might be in January. So parents end up going further into debt to ensure surprise and delight reach satisfying levels on Christmas morning.
That’s just whack-a-doodle behaviour.
Retailers are counting on it too.
